Dear Fellow Concerned Citizen,
As a member of the Northwest Arkansas Home Builders Association (NWHBA) you know the value of housing to the Springdale economy. You know that consumers work hard to make their dream of home ownership a reality and when they do the entire city benefits. Now, the city of Springdale is proposing new design standards which will unnecessarily increase the price of homes and shrink the economy of Springdale.
It is time to take action and protect our businesses and our city
The city of Springdale’s proposed changes prohibit materials like vinyl, aluminum, wood, or concrete from being used as exterior finish materials for almost all new single family detached homes. These changes to dictate how the outside of a home “looks” are a form of exclusionary zoning that will price out certain groups of prospective homeowners from the Springdale housing market.
On October 25th the city planning commission met and heard from Springdale residents and homeowners. The overwhelming message to the commission was that it was wrong for the city to choose the kind of door or exterior or size of porch a home in Springdale has. It is up to the consumer.
Housing creates jobs. With these new proposals in place the consumers and tax payers of Springdale will have less money available to spend on the interior of the home – flooring, lighting, furniture, etc. and less money to spend at restaurants and stores in Springdale.
A large part of Springdale residents (and future residents), who could afford a home without these measures in place, would be “priced out” by this proposed design plan.
Take a moment now to let our city’s leaders know this is not the right course of action, your voice will make a difference.
